Black Bream - Mankala
My name is Chern’ee Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist and my heritage lies with the Kalkadoon people from the Mount Isa area in Queensland.
This painting is called “Mankala” which means in the Kalkadoon language “Black Bream” and this painting represents Mankala who swims in her river and waterholes until she sacrifices her life for the Kalkadoon people.
