My name is Brooke Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from the Mount Isa area in Queensland. This painting is called “Utinat Connections” in the Kalkadoon language which means “Emu connections”.
This painting is my interpretation of Utinat which is the bird totem for the Kalkadoon people and my family and the connections he has in life. The large emu feet represent Utinats journey through life and he is connected to the sun. Utinat is also connected to the water, the land and the Kalkadoon people. Utinat is connected to all life in Kalkadoon country.
