Emu Dreaming - Utinat Ritjinguthinha
My name is Brooke Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from the Mount Isa area in Queensland. This painting is called “Utinat Ritjinguthinha” in the Kalkadoon language which means “Emu Dreaming”.
This painting is my interpretation of Utinat which is the bird totem for the Kalkadoon people and my family and the connections she has in life. The large emu feet represent Utinats journey through life and she is connected to the sun. Utinat is also connected to the water (blue), the land (ochre and brown) and the Kalkadoon people. Utinat is connected to all life in Kalkadoon country.
