My name is Brooke Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from the Mount Isa area in Queensland.
“Mangkarri” is the name of this painting and it is one of the kalkadoon words for “To Swim”.
The Kalkadoon people have a connection to the sea as they used to travel north to the gulf country to hunt and gather food and my painting depicts the many vibrant colours and life given by the sea to all living sea creatures.
