Butterfly Dreaming - Kali’s Ritjinguthinha
My name is Chern’ee Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from Mount Isa in Queensland. This painting is called “Kali’s Ritjinguthinha” in the Kalkadoon language which means “Butterfly Dreaming”.
This painting tells a story of change, of growing, evolving, and finding beauty in each new beginning. The butterflies move softly across the canvas, their wings carrying stories of hope, renewal, and the quiet strength found in transformation.
The large community symbols represent those who are part of our lives, the loved ones, friends, and connections who walk beside us through every season. The travelling lines and smaller community symbols trace our journeys, marking the paths we take and the memories we create along the way.
The flowing colours capture the gentle rhythm of life, moments of stillness, movement, and rebirth.
Butterfly Dreaming is a celebration of growth and connection, a reminder that every change brings us closer to who we are meant to be.
