Red Cockatoo - kurri kurri Marrpu

My name is Brooke Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from the Mount Isa area in Queensland.

“Kurri kurri Marrpu” is the name of this painting which means “Red Cockatoo” in the Kalkadoon language and this is my interpretation of her story.

When Tjawan the frog see’s red cockatoo flying high above Kalkadoon country she knows it is time to start singing her song for rain.
