The Dragonfly - Wataarri
My name is Chern’ee Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from the Mount Isa area in Queensland. This is my interpretation of “Wataarri” which means in the Kalkadoon language “The Dragonfly”.
This artwork follows the journey of the dragonfly through life — from the waterholes where their story begins, to the winding paths as they travel across the land. Each flowing line represents their movement and transformation as they grow, adapt and explore new places.
Surrounded by vibrant native blooms and layered detail, the dragonflies glide through their world with purpose and grace. Their story is one of change, freedom and lightness a journey told through every brushstroke in this piece.
