Frog Dreaming - Tjawan Ritjinguthinha

My name is Chern’ee Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from the Mount Isa area in Queensland.

When the rain falls and the waterholes and creeks begin to fill, the land breathes again. The earth glistens, the air cools, and life stirs beneath the surface awakening with the rhythm of the falling rain. As the Country comes alive, the frogs begin to sing, their voices echoing softly through the seasons.

This artwork celebrates that moment of renewal when the colours deepen, the patterns of the land shift, and everything feels connected once more. The circles represent the waterholes and communities joined by the flowing rains, while the intricate pathways trace the movement of life as it travels across Country.

The frogs gentle chorus carries through each season, a reminder that even as the world changes, balance and beauty remain.

Frog Dreaming – Tjawan Ritjinguthinha is a story of renewal and harmony, of the life that flows through land and water, and the song that continues long after the rain has passed.
