Waterholes - Kuukili
My name is Chern’ee Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from Mount Isa in Queensland.
This painting is called “Kuukili” which means “Waterholes” in the Kalkadoon language.
This painting called “Waterholes” captures the essence of our Country’s strength, resilience and beauty. In this design, each small dot represents the steady, nourishing rain as it falls upon the earth. The circles symbolize the Kuukili— waterholes that begin to fill with each drop. These waterholes overflow, connecting one to the next in a network of life, spreading vitality across the landscape. This flow between Kuukili reflects the strength and unity of our Country, where every waterhole, large or small, contributes to the wellbeing of the land. These waterholes are symbols of endurance and abundance, part of a cycle that has sustained our lands for countless generations.
Can be hung portrait or landscape, your choice.
